About AWD

WHAT IS AWD?

Adriatic Wood Days is a conference that comprises forestry, wood processing, energy from wood, furniture production and creative industries. Leading experts from business, academia, politics and the media will gather in Rovinj to analyze situation in these sectors and seek optimal solutions for improvement opportunities. AWD is the largest and most comprehensive sectoral event in this part of Europe, and the participants will adopt conclusions and propose recommendations to decision-makes of sectoral policies at the regional, European and global level.

AWD PRESENTS KEY ISSUES

• • AWD wishes to emphasize the environmental and socio-economic potential of wood processing, which is becoming increasingly important in Europe, because the wood is processed in rural areas, which saves millions of jobs. For this reason, the forestry and wood processing is increasingly seen as unified and integrated sector with great potential.
  • AWD calls for greater cooperation in the application of technological innovation, greater mobilization of wood raw material and prevention of illegal logging in the EU Member States. It promotes neighborly and regional cooperation and a better exchange of good practices between northern and southern EU countries.
  • AWD raises the question of a larger and more efficient use of European funds, which are already available to the sector, and first of all it refers to funds for smart specialization and rural development.

About the organiser

The organiser and initiator of the AWD is the Croatian Wood Cluster, the leading association in the wood processing sector in Croatia, which brings together over 70 firms and representatives of the academic community, government and related sectors, such as forestry and the energy industry. The main assignment of the Croatian Wood Cluster is to improve the competitiveness of the wood processing sector through increasing the use of wood and timber products with the help of diverse development activities, branding products, data analysis, international projects, education of members, media presence and so on.
